Humanity has been trying to achieve world peace since we first learned how to communicate with each other. The problem and reasons we have not been able to achieve world peace is because of our greed and our need for domination over each other. As long as our desires over rule our common sense, world peace will always be a desire but not an attainable goal. To answer the question will there ever be a chance for world peace, we have to ask ourselves, can't we just all get along? Can we?

One of the main problems to achieving world peace is that it's not profitable and when there is no profit to obtain, world peace will be hard to obtain. Imagine what would happen to the military institutions around the industrialized nations if no more weapons would need to be built. The industrialized nations spend billions upon billions on WMD and supersonic airplanes, tanks, armored piercing bullets and so on. These industries would not be needed in such a large masses and thus their profits would shrink. This would also hurt people who work for these companies and maybe parts of the economy. Imagine instead of spending billions of dollars on destruction we spend it on helping civilization, can you imagine that? Yes we can but our politicians can not and as long as we continue to elect those who see profit in war, we will never see world peace. Our need to dominate weaker nations is in our genes and it's a part of our fiber as human beings. To the victor goes the spoils of war and as long we adhere to this saying, there will always be reasons for war. Who amongst us truly believe that we would care about the Middle East if there was no oil in the Middle East? The need and greed for oil has always been the driving force why we are so engaged in the Middle East.
We have seen two major wars in the Middle East more due to oil than democracy. Though we pretend to believe it's not just about oil but about people, than why did the world do nothing when Iraqi government used chemical weapons against its own people? The oil supply was not in danger and so the world stood by and did nothing. However, when the Iraqi regime invaded Kuwait and the oil supply was threatened, the world pounced and brought upon the Iraqi regime a beating not seen since world war two. Though we can argue that if the Iraqi regime had not invaded Kuwait or threaten the oil supply, peace could exist in that area. The truth is, we outside the Middle East see oil as culprit but there is also a war over land. As in the Middle East, there are those nations and people who want more land, more power over others. No matter which side of the conflict you take with the Israelis or Palestinian people, it's about Domination be over land and people. One can argue if common sense ruled, both sides would stop this conflict that has existed over thousands of years. This is why there can be no world peace, for the need to dominate and our greed as human beings will always over rule common sense.
The world is filled with conflict over land, oil, religion and just basic mistrust of each other. To achieve world peace we would need to forgo our mistrust of each other, quell our desire to dominate and control our greed.
