Things to consider when hiring a maid

In this day and age when we are so busy juggling our careers and home life some tasks are bound to slip through the cracks or maybe just rank lower in our list of priorities. Usually it's those things that we least enjoy doing, such as housework. How often is someone going to look behind the drapes anyway?

Let's be realistic, eventually something has to be done and if you really do not want or have time to tackle the housework then consider hiring a maid. The cost can be very reasonable and the relief that you feel in having this task taken care of is well worth it.

You should be careful in considering what type of maid to employ. Should you choose a service or an individual? There are issues to address with either one that you need to be aware of before making a decision. It is important to inquire and receive information on all of the following topics:

1) Insurance-Covering Personnel and Items in your home.
2) Security-Who will have access to your home?
3) Cost-Do they charge a flat fee for the session or by the hour? What services are included and what is considered extra?
4) Availability-Do they offer a loose time frame or a specific appointment time?
5) References-You must check all references.
6) Taxes-Who is responsible for payroll taxes?

Remember these people will be in your home, more than likely folding your underwear. You must feel comfortable about who is doing this. Trust your instincts. If a friend uses an individual and is satisfied with the services then this may be the option for you. If you feel more comfortable with professional, anonymous styles then choose a maid service.

Do the research and ask the questions. It may seem that there is more involved to hiring a maid than you first thought but once you have come to a decision the rest will fall into place. Literally, everything will be in its place. Cleaned, dusted, and put away without any effort on your part. Even behind the drapes, in case anyone dares to look.
