Poetry: Nonsense

I fell in love with that old man
who paid me no attention
he said 'you look here, girl
you ain't worth a mention'

I cried and said with all my heart
you make me feel unworthy
"I don't care, you silly girl"
go fix your hair real curly'

My emotions were entangled
I couldn't accept rejection
I put my hands upon his throat
with all my strength I strangled

He didn't die, he just turned stiff
and then a funny blue
and then a woman did come up
to see what she could do

She looked at him, let out a gasp
and did her face turn white
this is my husband, he needs attention
but, I don't have time tonight

She walked away in some kind of huff
and looking back at me
she said 'see what you can do'
I'm going out for tea'

If he doesn't come around
in a minute or a few
please join me on the corner
and have a bowl of stew

I thought how weird to hear his wife say that
I guess I cared too much
I left him lying in the street
to have some stew and such

I guess I really didn't care
about that man so much
he never offered to buy me stew
at a cafe and such
