Most people know when and if they need help. But is that true in the area of mental illness?
The answer is quite simply no it is not always true.
Bad flu,go too your g.p,cut yourself at work like wise.
The field of mental illness can be,dare i say it mindblowing, and unbelievably confusing!
I ask you too find a therapist/psychologist,is not easy. After all your asking a "sick" mind too do the work of a healthy mind, when its your mind itself that is "damaged" or "broken.
It,s just not fair is it.
Youv,e probably read all the self help books only too find,in the end most writers are pushing their own opinions. Then you get too the stage where you are thinking, havent I read that somewhere before.
Well guess what people you probably have because there is a huge amount of plagarism out there.and this helps NO-ONE.
So what do you do,obviously,go see your G.P,surely he/she wont send me too the wrohg person?
Unfotunately though folks that is what happens a lot of the time when you are reffered to
someone by your G.P.
Why is this so?simple a G.P IS NOT A PSYCHIATRIST!....they have a working knowledge of course, but,in the end, largely due too the very confusing nature of mental illness, they fall back on the person they always send people too(often a personal friend/colleague.
You go along,he or she is not the right person and you end up back where you started...welcome too the mental health merry go round.
So here is what people REALLY need a simple practical guide, that will get you too the right person,at the right place, and, hopefully at the right time.
First of all remember, and never forget that the golden rule for any one-one therapy sessions,
is the therapist must br able to work with YOU,and,YOU,must be able too confide and trust in that person.
Sounds like a bit like trying too find a needle in a haystack doesnt it? Well what if we can reduce the size of the haystack, and enlarge the size of the needle.can it be done?ABSOLUTELY!
Firstly I want you too sit down and being totally honest with your-self,draw up a six point
"wish-plan" six things you want to see in a therapist, and things YOU need to be addressed
A typical list may look like this
1. Must be female/male/
2. MUST IF POSSIBLE be able too see me when I want.
3. Must be able too deal with MY problem.
4. Must be of a certain intellectual/personality type.
