How making your baby feel secure reduces crying

by flojlo

Babies cry. This is a natural fact. What can you do about this? Well there are a lot of different things. I happen to be the mother of three wonderful 'almost' adults. When they were babies they cried, of course. Although I must say, not that often. I have always prided myself in the fact that my babies actually, hardly cried at all. How can this be? Well it is not an easy proposition.

It is not bad for a baby to cry. As a matter of fact it is a good thing for them to be able to cry a bit. It helps to build their lung capacity, and make their little lungs stronger. I happen to not be able to stand a little 'eek'. So I did some things to help to not have to hear my poor babies cry all that much. My babies happen to all be very good, so I really did not have to worry about this problem as much as others.

Always pay attention to your baby. This is a very time consuming proposition, but very important. If you are always paying as much attention to your child your child will know it. They will feel loved. You will be able to tell when they need or want something before any major eruption. This is always a wonderful thing. This will also help you to bond with your child.

One of these thing is simply to hold your child. Yes, some will say you will spoil your child if you hold them all the time. Well go ahead and hold them all the time. Sooner than you think you baby will be grown and no longer a baby. You can never have that time back agian, so I say hold on to it as much as you can. I happen to feel I did not even do it enough. By holding your baby you make them feel safe and secure. This will definitely reduce the amount of crying you will hear.

Another thing I liked to do was try and soothe my baby by putting him/her in a swing chair. Babies love motion. Although one of my babies could have lived in the swing, and hardly ever cried, my other two liked the swing just a bit. So you have to find what will work for your child.

I also like a pacifier. This helps the child feel secure. I would not use it as a first resort, but when all else fails, go ahead. Believe me your child will not be harmed by this, and he will not go to school with a paifier in his/her mouth.

Doctors often tell parents to swaddle the child tightly in a blanket. They say this makes the child feel secure, like they did in the womb. Well this also worked a bit for one of my children, then not at all for the other two. So I suppose it is worth a try.

Really anything that you can do personally for that particular child that stops it from crying is a good thing. But again a little crying never hurt anyone, and it is suppose to be ok for your baby. I feel all babies should never cry, so these are a few of my helpful hints.
