The funeral would be very private and quiet. It would be very modest and simple. I thought of the way it would be, and pondered if I was missing something? No. I have it all. I went over my list of items. I have the barrel, the oil, the storage unit, a nice 10x 20 should be enough to store that, and a few other items. I pulled the barrel from the truck, and pushed it into the storage unit. I filled the bottom with the oil, not too much. It was just enough to saturate the lower half of the body. I wanted to be able to dispose of the demised carefully, no mistakes could be made.I had everything in place except the body. I called Chris, I asked him to come over to the unit and help me move a heavy item, I could not move it myself. He sighed his usual annoyed sigh, and complained as usual about every and any little thing. I apologized for my inadaquasy and thanked him in advance. He arrived shortly, alcohol on his breath as usual. I handed him a beer. It was a good bye gesture. It would help to preserve the body. He drank it willingly and I gave him another. Whats the deal? I don't see anything you can't move? Those were his final words. I sharply shoved the knife in so that it was clean and effective. There was not much blood it was internal bleeding. I pulled the knife upward to make sure it 's damage was done. It was. I pulled back his head so I could look into his eyes as he passed out of this world into Hell. I smiled. A first genuine smile I had smiled in years. I shoved him into the barrel face first. I had to push a little to get him in and make room for the oil. It went around him and filled the barrel perfectly. I sealed the barrel and took the dolly and moved him to the middle of the unit. I pulled off my hat, and gave a little ulogy. Chris. No one will miss you. Amen. I Closed the unit and pulled my truck around to the front. I walked back to get his. I paid my monthly bill.I of course did not use my name and we had closed our unit out we had together months ago. There would be no trace. Thank you Ms. Jones. The manager said. No. Thank you. I drove Chris's truck away, and called a tow truck for mine, it just won't start. The tow truck delivered my car about an hour ago. I was not home, I had to leave Chris's truck off in the desert. I rode my bike home, it was a lovely carefree ride.
It's been twenty years since that day. I have had such a peaceful life. The kids still wonder where their Dad could have wandered to? The police visit me every now and then to let me know the case is still open. I dry my eyes and look far away. They just pat my hand and say we'll be in touch mam. try to have a good day. I let a tear drop fall.
