Movie reviews: Spiderman 3

Spider-man 3 is unsurprisingly the third film in the spiderman series starring Tobey Macguire as Spiderman. I always get a little worried when I hear a third film is coming out in a series as often they are never as good as the predecessors. However I had watched the first two films and enjoyed them both so was curious to see if they could keep up the good work and make this a successful and enjoyable film.

The film sees Peter Parker very happy with life, he has a pretty girlfriend MJ played by Kirsten Dunst and Spiderman is very popular in New York helping to keep crime rates down. However nothing good seems to last in Parkers life and things start going wrong. On top of this a new villain called The Sandman starts causing chaos in New York and Spiderman is finding him difficult to stop.

Then a mysterious black blob appears and creates a new black spiderman outfit which gives Parker stronger powers but also begins to take over his character. Parker seems to enjoy this new found energy, emotions and power. But as Parker starts to change his family and friends sense that something is up. What will happen? Will Spiderman stop the Sandman? Will Parker and MJ live happily ever after? Who is the new villain in town? Well I'm not going to spoil the film so if you want to know you'll just have to watch it.

It took a while for me to get into the film and to be honest I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous two Spiderman films. The special effects as always are great as Spiderman fights against the villains and moves around New York flying through the air. And there are plenty of villains, along with the Sandman we also have a mysterious black suited creature and Harry Osborne (Parkers friend from the previous films) also returns to seek revenge for his fathers death. Plenty to keep Spiderman busy for the duration of the film.

Some parts of the film I found a bit silly especially the part where Parker begins wearing the black suit and then prances about in New York trying to look really cool. I guess the director was trying to add some humour but I felt it didn't really fit with the rest of the film.

If you are a fan of Spiderman then you will probably enjoy this film but it isn't as good or fast moving as the previous films.

My DVD was rented and so was just one disc, the only special features were commentaries, trailer and an advert for a toy spiderman. Not exactly worth a watch but there is a 2 disc version DVD available.

Run Time - 133 minutes
Rating - 12
