The 1944 battle, the Battle of the Bulge, between Anglo-American and German troops is one that is also depicted in popular culture and film. It has movies; novels and other media based on it.

The first film on the battle was released in 1949. Battleground was an Oscar winning film that told the story of an American infantry unit involved in the Siege of Bastogne. This film won two Academy Awards for best cinematography and best writing.

Battleground's success laid the groundwork for further films on the battle. Firstly followed by the 1956 film, Attack! The most suitably named Battle of the Bulge was released in 1965, and had a good starring cast but was not entirely accurate. The classic 1970 film, Patton, dealt with the battle in its latter half.

More recently, the 1992 PBS documentary Battle of the Bulge received many awards. Most notably, the duPont-Columbia Journalism award. Released in the same year, A Midnight Clear is set on the eve of the Battle of the Bulge.

Band of Brothers is a factual account, which follows the Easy Company parachute regiment. This is written both as a book, which has also been adapted for a BBC tv series. It features the regiment involved with the battle at Bastogne.

The Battle of the Bulge is featured in novels. Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse-Five, is a fictional tale of chaplain's assistant in an infantry division during the battle. Solider Boys, by Dean Hughes, is another fictional book based on the Bulge.

Video games have also incorporated the battle. The computer game Battlefield 1942, allows players to re-enact the battle. Call of Duty 2 United Offensive pack, includes the snowy Bastogne in its first person shooting game. Close Combat: Battle of the Bulge also has an accurate implementation of the full battle. Other popular first person shooters, like Medal of Honor also feature the battle.

Aside from video games, board games have also included the Battle of the Bulge. Memoir 44 is an award winning game that has a scenario based on it. Advanced Squad Leader and Bitter Woods have also focused on it. The Axis and Allies board game series also has a Bulge game.

Indeed, the Battle of the Bulge was the biggest battle on the western front, so it is perhaps not surprising that it has been included within popular western culture and film. The Battle of the Bulge, be it on the big screen or via video games, is well depicted.
