Assessments of different sunless tan products

I had been pondering over the idea of buying a bottle of the moisturising self tanning lotion but didn't want to look like I had been tangoed, so on my way round Tescos I found a little silver packed called Tantowel and for 1.50 I couldn't resist.

When I got home I couldn't wait to apply it but needed to test it out somewhere inconspicuous; just imagine if I had tested it out on my face and it had gone orange or streaky. So I rolled my trousers up and took off my shoes and socks, opened the packet to find like a baby wipe inside and off I go wiping it from the knee right down my legs and over my feet. Time to sit back and let it do its magic.

The packaging

Tantowel comes in a small silver packet with a black sun on the front and the words the self tanning towelette, odourless, colourless and no streaking. 1 disposable towelette. It also has the size of the towel written at the bottom this one is 7.1 x 9 inch. 18 x 22.8 cm. It has all the relevant information on the back of the packet and you open it just like you would a packet of sauce.

On the back of the packet

Each Tantowel is a towelette concentrated with self tan, formulated to give you a quick and even application with no streaking or odour. Tantowel can be applied to the face or body and will produce a uniform, natural looking glow within three hours. For a deeper tan, apply another Tantowel after three hours. Individual results may vary. To maintain your tan, re-apply as needed.

How to use

Remove the tan towel and unfold, apply generously. Wash your hands after use. To moisturise and enhance your tan follow with Tantowel x-tend.

Caution

For external use only, do not swallow; avoid contact with eyes. If signs of irritation or rash occur consult a doctor. Does not contain sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin whilst tanning may increase the risk of skin ageing, skin cancer and other harmful effects to the skin, even if you do not burn.

Smell

Even though is states that it is odourless I found that it had a citrus smell, quite nice compared to other self tanning lotions. It states in the ingredients that it contains fruit extract, tea tree and citric acid.

My conclusion

After the first application I noticed that my legs had changed colour; this was after about three hours, I was impressed, no streaking and It was not orange, but not a nice golden colour either. I decided to buy another packet about three days later and used that as well. There is enough in one packet to do both my legs from the knee down. This time I noticed that on my ankles and knees it went a bit orange, mainly because I have rough skin and should have moisturised first. I think I would use this product again; it is perfect to get rid of milk bottle legs before you go on holiday or even just to get your legs out in public. Personally I wouldn't be brave enough to put it on my face just in case it went wrong. I have had a couple of baths since then and I have a white flannel. After washing my legs I noticed the colour had come off on the flannel; this rinsed straight out again, no worries about it staining. So I think you could probably wash the tan off slightly if you scrubbed hard enough, which I will not be doing too soon.

The tan looks better in some lights than others; in my kitchen at work I have fluorescent tubes and it looks great in there. The weather here has not been good enough to see what it looks like in bright sunlight. I would recommend this product because it is quick and easy and your tan appears in three hours.
