The dating game is every bit as logical as a game of chess, though the difference lies in what a player has to lose. With chess, the only loss is intellectual, though in a relationship, the loss is much greater and delves into the emotional. To overcome the possibility of loss, just as in chess, one needs to understand and identify the players that make the game work, and these are related to as players. This article attempts to explain how the identification process helps to make successful relationships and avoid stale mate situations.

The Pawns in the game.
Pawns on a chessboard go forward. They know their territory and defend it. In the dating game, the pawns are those run of the mill people who chat you up in the hope that perhaps they can initially form a friendship. Pawns could include the boy or girl next door, and those you meet in college or in the workplace. The sad thing is that pawns don't excel in looks, don't seem to be noticed, though there they are, the obvious good choice, though because young people want excitement, these are the players in the game who tend to not get the recognition they merit. Mister or Miss average are the pawns, going forward through life with the occasional battles won though who lose easily against the more competitive players.
The Knights.
The knight in shining armor is that guy that stands out from the crowd, or the girl who looks stunningly beautiful and either can give you the eye. Think about the logic of the situation, as in real life, if things look too good they probably are. The knight on a chess board is able to move not only forward but at angles too, and these are the ones to be wary of. They know all the angles and play with expertise, though often their expertise means that they probably already have a partner, and are trying to gain a little bit of freedom at your expense. The knight also knows how to manipulate and to use your vulnerabilities to gain status.
Knights don't ride up and sweep you off your feet as stories lead us to believe. They promise you the world and deliver very little. You recognized them for their outstanding looks, charming personality and the initial impression, though it is those qualities which keep them from becoming a serious possibility as a potential date. The danger of dating in these circumstances is that you are likely to be bowled over by them, and before realizing their game, become hurt in the process.
