Yes, you can buy dog treats at the store. But it's fun to make your own. Your dog will love them, you'll have fun making them, and you'll know the ingredients are good for your dog. That's important, especially with all the pet food recalls lately. And some of these recipes sound good enough for people to eat! (Seriously, you can share with your dog if you want to).
Apple Cinnamon Treats
Ingredients:
5 cups flour
1 cup applesauce
1 cup water
cup vegetable oil
cup powdered milk
2 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
Combine all ingredients. Roll out on a floured surface to a quarter inch thickness. Cut out treats with a cookie cutter. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool before serving. Store leftovers in a tightly covered container.
Banana Biscotti
Ingredients:
5 cups flour
1 cups mashed banana
1/8 cup peanuts
vegetable oil
1 egg
tsp baking soda
2 tsp vanilla
Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Stir in wet ingredients and mix until lumpy. Knead dough on a floured surface. Form dough into logs one inch thick and 6 inches wide. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Slice into inch to 1 inch biscotti slices and bake for 10 more minutes. Cool before serving. Store leftovers in a tightly covered container.
Beef and Carrot Cookies
Ingredients:
2 jars of beef baby food
1 jar of carrot baby food
cup powdered milk
Mix ingredients well and press into small patties. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool before serving. Cool before serving. Store leftovers in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.
Cheese Biscuits
Ingredients:
1 cups flour
1 cups shredded cheddar cheese
cup vegetable oil
4 Tbsp water
Combine ingredients, adding water one Tbsp at a time. Roll out on a floured surface to a quarter inch thickness. Cut into squares. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Cool before serving. Store leftovers in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.

2 cups whole wheat flour
cup white flour
cup oatmeal
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup milk
1 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp baking powder
Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. In another bowl, mix together peanut butter, milk, and honey. Then add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix well. Knead dough and roll out on a floured surface to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into one inch squares. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool before serving. Store leftovers in a tightly covered container.
