New Religion
Buddhism, Islaam, Christianity and The Family,
are all growing in numbers but still can't compete
With this new religion with its god in every home
A god so popular there are dozens in every street
The new religion is taking over. It will not retreat.
This new religion has its doctrines and weekly routine
It dictates dress and eating regimes and recreation too
This new god is only half a century old and growing
It is a god so mighty it takes pride of place in houses too
Babes are weaned on it, students study it and so might you
This new religion keeps us sane and drives is crazy
It teaches us wondrous things then bleeds our minds dry
This new religion permeates our dreams, steals our sleep
it makes us wish and want, love and hate, laugh and cry
This new religion of television will not pass you by

there was Jim Arness, Johnny Carson
Oh yes, and Peter
