"I Too, Am A Republican..."
Not every Republican supports a partisan, hawkish, anti-abortionist, anti-gay agenda. Not every Republican is a religious fundementalist who seeks to bring about the "End of Times." Not every Republican is a bigot. Not every Republican governs without abiding by the law set forth by the United States Consitution. Not every Republican stands behind the failed Bush policies while standing against all those that dissent against the president.
In fact, you'll find that most of us are open minded, moderates with a strong moral backbone. We consider ourselves the "silent majority" of the Republican Party, Goldwater Republicans you might say...I happen to be one of them.
Our party has been highjacked by the religious right , and it is up to moderates like myself to bring the party back to its libertarian and fair minded roots. People misunderstand our intentions sometimes and group us with the rest without ever considering what we actually stand for.
We are "pro-lifers," but not in the way that you might picture such a term. We believe that life begins at conception and that it is our duty to protect such a life. We believe that it is our duty to make abortions a thing of the past, while still supporting a womans right to choose.
Though we may not agree with those that seek abortions, we strive to help those in need by offering programs like planned parenthood, sex education and counseling. Instead of blowing up abortion clinics, we find it more useful to try to persuade others to have their babies and give them up for adoption, as long as the birth poses no medical harm to the mother. We also do not believe in the death penalty because we seek not to play God.
We believe that the government should bud out of our personal lives.
We believe in small government, where the people get to have a say in deciding which policies should be implemented within our democratic republic. We are not out to destroy big government, as many may have you believe. Instead we want to fix the federal institution so that it may better serve its citzens.
We support the war on terror by pushing for intelligence reform and diplomacy, leaving military combat as the last resort. Combat is not a conservative issue. We also seek to fight the war on terror by spreading freedom without shoving it down the throat of others like many of our predecessors have done.
We seek to find solutions to poverty and disease and promote education so that those without any means would
