Bismillah-hir-rahman-nir-rahim
Surah Al-Qadr
Allah has sent this beautiful Surah to remind us of the power and honour of the Holy Book of Quran. The Arabs of Makkah who were its first recipients were divided into two categories. The fortunate ones were the forerunners of faith and they whole heartedly believed in Allah's message which was being conveyed to them by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him). But the "disbelievers" had their own worldly interests to preserve and so they stubbornly carried on with their campaign of letting down the true revelations from Allah. They accused without any logic that the Quranic verses were fabricated or brought to the Prophet through some evil spirits or even the Satan himself. To put an end to all their nonsensical views Allah sent this powerful reminder that The Noble Quran was such an honourable book that it was not revealed on any random day but a special time of power and glory had been selected for its revelation to the mankind....the night of power...the night of glory...the night of Destiny:
"Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Power." (97:01)
There are many Hadith regarding this awesome night and its blessings. We know that to worship Allah in this night can earn us unfathomable rewards. We also know from other verses of the Quran that this night can be found in the month of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting. But no amount of knowledge can make us aware of its true worth....as is apparent from the next verse:
"And what can make you know what the Night of Power is?" (97:02)
And then to give us an idea of its power Allah gives us a clue!
"The Night of Power is better than a thousand months".(97:03)
Obviously a thousand months is used as a symbolic value and what we need to understand here is that our life is too short to give due right to Allah. So if He has given us this opportunity to gather this goodness of more than a thousand months in just one night then we should make the most of it.
According to Hazrat Ayesha (r.a) the Holy Prophet said:
"Search for lailat-ul-Qadr among the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan"
But then it should not be taken merely as a ritual where we pray one night and then forget about Allah's rights for the whole next year. Rather this night of power should be an opportunity to connect us permanently and deeply with our Lord. Our Lord who created us and gave us everything, sends His angels on this beautiful night to bless all those fortunate ones who seek His forgiveness
