Committed to one thing
He's committed to the bottle
The chances of him quittin'
are the same as him winnin the lotto
Can't fall asleep
Unless Jack Daniels is near
Can't remember the last mornin
he hasn't cracked open a beer
His breath reeks of last night
Constantly reeks of booze
A regular at the local bar
this guy is nothin but old news
Nobodies heard from him
in months, he's been MIA
His family worries about him
every single second of every day
His kids don't see him as dad
They see him as good as dead
He's not the same person
who used to tuck them away in their bed
Though his head is cloudy
he remembers a time of sobriety
when he wasn't classified as
an alcoholic by society
He was a great father
Went to all of his kids games
they loved being around him
before he started slurrin' their names
Once upon a time
he had a really nice job
a half million dollar house
in ground pool and a Saab
but due to the economy
His company had to cut costs
After twenty something years
they had to lay him off
Him and his wife made a vow
Til death do them part'
But she left him for a richer man
And took off with his heart
He was once a family guy
He was once his kid's hero
Now the only people he keeps in
touch with work for the credit bureau
Lost almost everything
He felt helpless, felt like a loser
Couldn't deal with the problems
Turned into an alcohol abuser
Instead of seeking help
He decided to self medicate
Only made his problems worse
Now any help is far too late
Devoted to alcohol
Like he once was to his kids and his wife
Now he's hoping that bottle
will someday soon end his life
Will they ever see him sober?
They sit around and they wonder
While every sip he digs his hole
That's going to take him six feet under

Poetry: Alcoholism
by Daniel Cloud
Lovely booze, call it alcoholism in the name of damned science
In the name of psychology and psychiatry
It runs my life as
Like a Bottle of Cheap Whisky
Cheapened by yesterday and ripe
Each sip brings the bottle closer to its end
The inevitable
Let me liquid coat my feelings, to numb all of these emotions.
Let me open up the bottle and empty the waterfall of my life's
Always the second priority
To your other woman alcohol
Who holds the authority.
Watching the false sense of happiness
Rush toward
I watched him walk in.
That weaving gate
Drink spilling
Leaving trails of heartache
How many times
Do you watch them fall
How
