~If Only~
If I had the chance to scream and shout,
Could I truly let it all out?
Tell you exactly how I feel?
Let you know that the pain is real?
If we had the chance to sit and talk,
Would you listen or would you walk?
Would you leave me behind again?
Guess I wouldn't be surprised, then.
If I were to ask you what you did,
Or if there's something that you hid,
Would you own up to your mistakes?
Can you empathize with heartache?
If I could go back and change the past,
What could I do to make it last?
How could I fix this mess you made?
How can I make this sorrow fade?
If ev'rything had gone perfectly,
Would you be a father to me?
Would you have held me in your arms?
Would you protect me from all harm?
If ev'rything had turned out okay,
Where do you think I'd be today?
Would I adore and respect you,
For all you are and all you do?
If I could just completely explain,
Maybe you'd understand my pain.
But you refuse to hear my plea -
Oh, how it eats away at me!
If only you could just comprehend,
The lives you broke and need to mend,
The family you left behind,
the damage you did to my mind,
The pain you carelessly imparted,
The souls you made so fainthearted,
The lies you have clung to for years,
The endless stream of unseen tears
If I could truly believe you care,
Would I be demanding what's fair?
Would anger fill my empty heart?
Would I lose hope for a new start?
If I had the chance to scream and shout,
Remove every trace of doubt,
Place the blame upon your shoulders,
Let all my resentment smolder,
Tell you that I'll never forgive you,
Nor forget what you put me through,
And leave you behind with one, last bow,
Where would we stand, right here and right now?
