Becoming the fifth state into statehood, Connecticut has many little known facts. There are facts such Connecticut being the state to establish the first law school in United States; it was the Tapping Reeve Law School. With this said, it is only fair to look at the law facts of Connecticut.
Connecticut established the first automobile law; it was the set speed limit of 12 miles per hour. The first permanent license plate also started in Connecticut.
Under the Code of 1650 in the New Haven Colony (in what is now Connecticut), a 16-year-old boy could be put to death if he cursed, struck or disobeyed his parents or was stubborn or rebellious. Ok death is a little stiff, but we need this one in this era, for boys and girls of all ages! Maybe we could revise it must look up famous people in different states, the old fashion way, in books!
In Waterbury, Connecticut: It is illegal for any beautician to hum, whistle, or sing while working on a customer. Well people, let face it, some of you are a little off key!
In Hartford, Connecticut, you are not to walk across a street on your hands and the police can stop you for riding a biking over 65 miles per hour. In Connecticut, it is illegal to pirouette while crossing the street and in Devon, Connecticut, it is unlawful to walk backwards after sunset. This state really knows how to kill a circus career! Bloomfield, Connecticut: It is against the law to eat in your car. In addition, a druggist in Connecticut must pay $400.00 each year for a license in order to use alcohol in compounding prescriptions. Now they want to mess up your high that is why I was eating in the car, munchies!
I really like this one; it is against the law for a man to write a love letter to a girl whose mother or father has forbidden the relationship. Well I know a few fellows who would be in jail until this day! The marriage of imbeciles and feeble-minded persons is not to be in Connecticut. That is not fair whom else can I marry! Connecticut retains an old law forbidding any kind of private sexual behavior between consenting adults. Where was this law when I really needed it?
Some fun facts about animals in Connecticut, is the fact that branding first came into play in this state. Cattle branding started in Connecticut during the mid-nineteenth century. This was because the farmers were by law, to mark all of their pigs. It is necessary to report a dog if they had tattoos and you may not educate your dogs in Connecticut. I wonder does this mean that you cannot housebreak and who is going to get the paper.
The first ever telephone book, I guess that is fair, because you would need the phone book to look up a lawyer for all you fine you should have by now! The first car insurance in America was started in Connecticut, may be a good thing, but it should have been the hand walking insurance.
