4:35) (Note the "need to elect Barack Obama". By saying that they "need" to elect him, it lacks passion. It shows that regardless of whether the Democrats want him or not, they need him, and unfortunately there is no other option.) These pro-Democratic statements achieved the same uniting force that a pro-Obama speech would. It was, however, even more powerful because it was believable and most importantly, truthful. Her speech proved that she did not believe Obama would be a fantastic commander-in-chief by any means, but that she believes he is more prepared than John McCain. He is ready, sure, but there could have been better candidates. Because it came down to these two, it has become a necessity to bring the party together and elect the better of the two. Her speech united the party and no doubt brought many unforgiving Clinton voters to Obama's side for the election, but no true Clinton supporter will ever be happy with this nomination. Her speech was great and there is no way she could have given a better one. She found a perfect medium ground by uniting the party and keeping respect for herself. She gave the party what it needed, although maybe not completely what it wanted. However, what the party wanted from her was not the correct thing. If she praised Barack more than she did, people would have been dissatisfied and even more critical than they are now. It would have been a lie and the Republican Party would have pounced on the opportunity to show her old anti-Obama campaign commercials. This would quickly discredit her endorsement. After all, they did and still are airing the old Biden ads.
