"Everyting's bigger in Texas." This includes the shopping in San Antonio. From cosmopolitan shopping centers to cultural markets to boutiques, San Antonio developed into a mecca for shoppers. Consumers arrive from all over the south Texas area and Mexico to indulge in the grandeur of San Antonio shopping. The variety of shops and the number of high-quality stores transformed the city into the hub of shopping in south Texas.
For an upscale shopping experience, head to The Shops at La Cantera. A beautiful arboretum-style setting offers visitors a relaxing afternoon stroll through the 120 stores and restaurants like Neiman Marcus, Burberry, Macy's, Nordstrom's, Tiffany & Co. and Ralph Lauren. The lush vegetation and fountains enhance the serene atmosphere this mall exudes. After a day of shopping, reserve a room at the adjacent La Cantera Resort, featuring award winning golf and a luxurious spa. Another great feature, the resort offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from The Shops at La Cantera.
For a cultural shopping experience, head to La Villita on the south bank of the San Antonio River. This area features small, independently owned shops showcasing arts and crafts, gifts, home decor, and art. Many of the shops and galleries occupy old historic buildings from San Antonio's early history. Nueva Street Gallery exhibits original contemporary art by Texas artists, including award-winning local artist Brian St. John. Bolivar Cafe provides the perfect jump start to a day with a delicious breakfast or a tasty lunch of sandwiches, tacos and burgers.
Boutique shopping gives patrons the opportunity to find that incomparable item no one else will have. The shops along Broadway Street in the Alamo Heights area provide trendy clothing stores, antique shops, book stores and furniture boutiques. For a quiet afternoon shopping trip, head to Boerne a 30 minute drive north of San Antonio. This quaint Hill Country town offers superb boutique shopping and unique treasures. Make sure to stop at Bedazzled on Main Street for great prices on jewelry.
Southtown, a bohemian-type neighborhood south of downtown, features historical houses transformed into warehouses, artist lofts, shops, galleries and restaurants. Every month this neighborhood hosts First Friday, a gallery walk with live music and craft vendors. Locals love the vintage clothing and accessories at Jive Refried Vintage. Another gallery to browse, Garcia Art Glass, displays one of a kind blown glass vases, lighting, wall art, bowls, platters and jewelry. Here shoppers find distinctive gifts and personal treasures. While in Southtown, take a break at Madhatter's Tea House and Cafe. The menu provides an eclectic choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner with specialty teas. A few neighborhood favorites include Moroccan mint, jasmine jazz and the blackberry sage tea, sipped on the outdoor patio.
