Poetry, in all its forms, is used to express emotions and describe situations and feelings. When a person is writing a poem based on the experience they had, the reader must think firstly, then try to understand secondly and paint his mental picture thirdly.

When a person writes a poem about a personal opinion, then all you will get is greatly used words wasted away on the personal opinionated thoughts of another person, whether or not those opinions are valid.

Poetry is something I personally use and have used for two reasons, one is to escape and the second is to tell everyone what I'm escaping from, whether or not the poem was good, it was a metaphoric description of detailed happenings which makes poetry all the more tantalising to read.

When I think of opinionated poetry, I think of pro war/Anti war, pro environment/anti environment. I have not yet met someone who was against environment friendliness, however when you engage opinionated people you engage them in all walks and forms. The only conclusion I would come to would be the great influx in poetry of opinion, something which personally I would not read nor would I write.

The main and certain point I would like to make, is that opinion and art are two things that do not mix well, and this is something that has been apparent over the centuries everywhere in the world, when opinion penetrates art the only result is eventual control, and controlling art is the same as denying free speech. Art should be left to the free and creative, the somewhat eccentric and different, because they are the ones who bring us beauty even if they are not beautiful people themselves. The blackest of dirt can bare the most beautiful of flowers, whether those flowers are beautiful to others is none of their concern.

Yes opinion is a factor that we all relate to, as we do have many opinions of our own, whether we voice them or not is up to us. Opinionated writing is best kept to the journalists, and the poetry left to the artists. People who base life on fact cannot see its beauty, and those who fantasize see different facts all together. We are all different people, with different views, and not just our view on topics, but a different view on life all together. Poetry is best left to the artist.
