Poetry: Grandmothers

by Adisyn Lee

The world has seen suchchanges,
throughout her many years.
She has traveled several long and winding paths,
which have finally led her here.

She has seen a great number of losses,
and has handled all that life has thrown.
Saying good-bye to a mother, her sisters, a daughter,
and the only man she's ever known.

She remains just the same as she's ever been,
doesn't dwell on the dreams that couldn't be.
She is what binds us all together,
the heart and soul of our family.

Her eyes hold a peace within them.
Her hands forever there to hold.
On her face is written the story,
of a love that was long foretold.

Oh, how I long to be like this woman.
I aspire to have her love, her strength, her faith.
I spend my days in awe of her,
of her constant state of grace.

She is as unique as a snowflake.
She is completely unlike any other.
There is a place in my heart for only her,
for the one I call Grandmother.
