US elections 2008: Democratic Party Convention (DNC) speech by Hillary Clinton

Hillary's speech at the Democratic Party Convention (DNC) was sincere and political a rare coupling in todays political landscape. She made a powerful choice when she told the story about Harriet Tubman helping slaves escape by the underground railroad. "Just keep going!" Not only did she emphasize the importance of female figures in forming a free America, she also told African-Americans that to elect Obama is not going to be easy and it is going to take courage, commitment, and to just keep going when the going gets rough. Hillary got this point across in an almost poetic style. She not only cemented the base, but drew together the real democrats who care about the issues of the democratic party.

It is these issues that will elect Obama and she made this clear. She told her army that Obama and her stood for the same moral principles and when she campaigned she was championing for the same people Obama was. "It was not about me." She said. And she meant it. It was about the Americans that have suffered since Bush took office to long ago. It was about the military, who bush shoved into an unwanted war, unprepared and unsupported. Hillary made it clear that both her and the Man she fought for the nomination both had these important issues at stake. They had their differences as any one in a presidential contest does. She did not even bring up the statements she said to separate herself from her opponent. It was not necessary, people know what it means to challenge others for the Office of President, people know what was said was in the heat of battle, Hillary is a fighter and did not roll over and give up.

The issues is what should drive a voter to select the candidate at the polls. Hillary is behind Obama 100%, and this came through clearly in her speech. She let the nation know that there is going to be no divided democratic party that the Republicans can gloat over, and the pundits can squeeze to make themselves look like political journalists. Her speech gave no wiggle room for the doubters, though the anti-Hillary gang started taking pot-shots right away. Attempting to drive a wedge where there is not one. It is not in the republicans interest to have a United Democratic Party.

Hillary is an political animal. She is a survivor and she is going to be around for a long time to come. Her speech was right up there with other great American inspirational speech makers, only this time the speech came from a woman. A woman who not only defined what America stands for but showed what America stands for by hammering away at the bars that have been put around women for centuries. Not by American ideals but by ignorance and hate. Hillary cracked the glass ceiling and bent the bars. She is going to be remembered by history has being a courageous fighter for people rights, if not for being the first women president.
