Poetry: Dark thoughts

by Vicki Andis

Created on: August 27, 2008

Dark thoughts swirl through the cauldron of my being,
entangled in emotions, feelings of utter dispair,
caught up in the fragile essence of my consciousness,
rising to the top, intent on destruction and pain.

I am held captive, enslaved, a prisoner of my own mind,
dark thoughts reign supreme, unrelenting, overwhelming,
trapped in the maddness, it is everything, and nothing,
a dark force, pushing me closer to the perilous edge.

The darkness pursues me relentlessly, preventing escape,
moments of clarity are fleeting, there, then gone again,
disappearing into the oppressive, overpowering darkness,
like a thief disappearing into the night, transparent.

Daily I exist, dark thoughts grow stronger, uncontrollable,
it would be easy to give in, seek asylum in the darkness,
yet, doing so would lend validation to the dark intruder,
holding on tightly, the dark thoughts grow stronger.
