One would have guessed that given the new century and with people of color making all the advances that they have since 1964 that we would have finally gotten over all the other prejudices that have been holding us back. The sad thing is that we haven't and it'll be perhaps a long time before we have equality for all.

Why do we have this one hang up? Well, it seems pretty easy to me where the blame should lie for the prejudice against homosexuals. But laying blame does little to solve the issue because those who I see as responsible for this hate will simply carry on hating forever. They believe it is their right to hate homosexuals because they are told to by someone apparently greater than they. For one so great he does seem to hate so much.

Why should employers give benefits to same sex couples? The reasons are quite simply and don't involve any kind of hate. It's all about fairness and doing what is right. Fairness and doing the right thing is, after all, what those haters are supposed to believe in. But they really don't.

If someone is lucky enough to find love in this old world then who are we to say that they are wrong and are undeserving of benefits from employers? Very few of us, if any, are undeserving of employer benefits whether it be a homosexual or a religious hater (I wasn't going to put the name on those haters but obviously I changed my mind.)

The haters spout nonsense from what they refer to as their holy books in order to justify their hate. The bottom line is, and they will deny it, that the book they refer to is about as nice and wonderful as it is hate filled. So they try to deny homosexuals their basic human rights such as employer benefits for their partners.

It is long past time to put away our petty prejudices and hatred and just begin to accept. Accept people for whom and what they are. I know this is beginning to sound like some warm, fuzzy nonsense, you know let's all sing kum-by-ya in a circle around the fire. But it's more than that, it's about peoples lives.

It's about the lives of good people and maybe some not so good people of whatever sexual proclivities. It no longer has to be about hate but we must convince the haters of that. Convincing haters not to hate homosexuals is nearly impossible but it is always worth the effort.

Same sex benefits to spouses of same sex partners must be a priority so that every one can have the security those benefits bring.
