Kids room decorating ideas

There are as many ideas for kids rooms out there as their are kids. Of course not every kid gets their own room! If your child is lucky enough to get their own space and have it decorated to boot, then you'll want to run over a lot of ideas before you come to a decision. Here are a few tips to help you decide as well as some ideas to get you started.

Kids Room Decorating Tips and Ideas:

1) Set a budget. This is the most important step you'll take to making this process fun instead of stressful. When you know your limit you can make your decisions much more easily.

For those of you with limited funding, choose paint and bedding as your biggest purchases. For those of you with more to work with, prepare to look at furniture that is child safe, durable and pleasing to your theme.

2) Choose theme. This is the fun part! Talk to your child and ask them what interests them. They may already have a theme set in their hearts, or they may need help choosing one. If they leave it all up to you, consider what catches their attention. You may go with a television character, a favorite movie, a favorite book or perhaps a random them they find interesting.

Some traditional and interesting random themes include:
-the ocean
-the jungle
-fairy tales
-outerspace
-a farm
-cars

Random theme rooms have more staying power than television characters, movies and maybe even books. They are a place where children can easily imagine. If your budget can handle it you can even turn their bed into a "vehicle" such as a rocket, car, wagon, or ship. A bunk bed can become a treehouse in the jungle, or a castle. Consider safety and then let your imagination run wild until you find a nice balance.

3) Choose a color scheme. First of all try to keep all purchases within or related to this color scheme. This will really tie your room together. Because paint is such a cost effective change to a room this is an important decision. Keep in mind that you will probably have to repaint your child's room when they are a teen. This being said, you can paint murals, little details or even just choose a nice solid color that compliments the theme you have chosen.

4) Purchase. Now you're ready to hit the store. If you can't find what you are looking for locally don't forget about the convenience of the internet. All kinds of strange and fantastic details are just waiting for you to find them.

5)Place. Now that you've gotten the color down, and brought new furniture and accessories into the mix it is time to consider placement. Make things convenient for your child. In addition to sparking their imagination with the new decor you'll want to put their clothes and toys where they can reach them. Remember good designs are functional as well as beautiful!
