Christ, not necessarily the church, has been more than generous and gracious to all mankind for His death covered every sin and whether or not it is a popular idea, sin is not only universal, but all sin is equal in its result; it brings death. It is evidenced in Scripture that Christ died for all men, not simply for those who believe in Him, but for those who would reject Him. Man's rejection of God's gift, does not negate the gift.
Romans 6:23 states; "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord."
The mean-spirited attitude which many churches have had against the homosexual community stems, I think, from a misunderstanding of sin and its consequences. There is an attitude that different sins are of differing degree and that a "little white lie or gossip about a neighbor would not be a very great sin. At the same time, sins like murder, homosexuality and adultery make the churches top three most likely sins to consign one to hell.
Conversely, the homosexual, in many churches, have pressured their synods into accepting the homosexual lifestyle as if it did not go against God's will and must be accepted for the sake of political correctness. They ignore God's opinion of their lifestyle and rather than repenting, turning around to go God's way, they glory in their rebellion. Both attitudes are wrong.
Christianity, as practiced by Christ's example is a faith that loves the sinner, yet hates the sin. For those churches who accept homosexuals into their congregations or welcome them as seekers of God, I applaud you. We all fall short of the Glory of God and his goodness, so we are to help those who are seeking God find Him. Once, a person is a member, however, we must encourage him to be Godly in his lifestyle. Those in Leadership must fulfill the Biblical model found in 1 and 2 Timothy.
For those churches who require their heterosexual members to be Disciples of Christ, abstaining from pre-martial sex and adultery, while at the same time allow sodomites to openly practice their sexuality, making them deacons and church leaders; I call you ungenerous toward the homosexual. For the sake of his pride, you are willing that his soul should perish. These are the churches that truly are not living in love to their Homosexual brothers and sisters.
If a person were about to walk into traffic and get hit by a bus, no one would hesitate to shout to that person to stop. We wouldn't even think twice about it; his life is in
