Poetry: Paths of hardship

by Laura Lamarca

Created on: August 26, 2008

"Punctured pleas and broken chains."

Thoughts free-wheel down slopes
of self-saturation
towards gullible notions
that play at perfection's ease
and the feeling of forever-was
shakes and jolts,
laughs and screams

in crisp swings of emotion,
in waking aromas of morn.

Hopes hurry on ahead
as she rattles her muse
over incessant prattle of jaded ideals
and planks of feigned purpose

sing a duet of ideas

appearing on shoulders
strutting above passing cares.

She is cycling out
of careful control again
with the heavy words of poets
slung across heaving sighs
and tears of realization
ride upon afternoon mists...

as memory's motes
twist their welcoming tunes.

She remembers the line
of loitering ails,
repeating their chant
of shuffling mistakes
and those fakes that strode out
on spokes of broken mouths,
with faces throwing grimaces
on knowing's bare limbs.

Blind eyes tap carved conscience
in downhill parade
as fading failures
watch woes widening, to wilt
and eremitic echoes
form self-exile of mind

as sympathy grows silent
on isolation's sworn route.

And night falls so fast
on last legs of escape,
as deliberation decides
its own dreaded release...

despair's wheels cease to spin
as within cries out loud
and old clouded defeats
defy sense

to find peace.
