Managing curly hair: The best products and how to use them

I have shoulder length curly hair. I only wash my hair every other day. On days I don't wash it, I rinse it well in the shower to get the prior day's styling stuff out.

When I wash my hair, I use Philosophy brand 3 in 1 for shampoo, and Philosophy Shear Splendor conditioner. I try to concentrate the shampoo on my scalp and the conditioner on the ends of my hair. I towel dry my hair. I never use a hair dryer.

For styling, I use Dove Intense Frizz Control or Aussie Calm that Frizz cream. The dove tends to leave my hair a bit softer and the Aussie is stiffer. I apply it to the ends of my hair and work towards the scalp. Since I tend to style my hair away from my face, I comb my hair straight back - and pick it lightly with the comb or scrunch it with my hands.

If I'm going to french braid it or wear it in a bun, I pull it back wet. If I'm going to wear a pony tail, I let it air dry while I dress so the curls will be fuller in the pony tail. If I am going to clip it up, I'll let it completely air dry and put it up in a clip when I get to the office.

The big secret to maintaining curls and avoiding frizz is pick the day's style, and then don't touch your hair again. Running your hands through your hair will puff up the frizz. The good news is that you can "fix" it by wetting your hands, and running your hands through your hair to reactivate the styling cream and then "reset" your style.
