It has always been your intention to cut back, but now is the time to put into action all the cutbacks you intended. For consumers, the every day impact of today's recession like conditions translates into higher gas prices, higher food costs and stagnant salaries. Hence, designing an immediate economic stimulus package for oneself is a must.
As gas prices soar at record hikes one day, and trickle to slight declines the next, it is increasingly hard to determine what is reasonable. Because gas prices vary so much from day to day, it is best to fill your tank ten to twenty dollars at a time in order to take advantage of better prices as they become available. Sticking to discount retailers such as Wal-Mart and Kroger, offers another solution for dodging high gas prices as theirs are already lower than that of traditional service stations. Plus, additional discounts are extended to regular shoppers and card holders.
Reducing one's food budget is resolved with a similar solution. Stick to retailers such as the aforementioned, taking advantage not only of their always lower prices, but using this as an opportunity to maximize your coupons. Coupons, by the way, are another good idea for saving on food prices as every little bit counts. And, if you're not the stay at home and cook, take your lunch to work type, reconsider the places at which you chose to dine. Trade fancy dine in restaurants for the local food court. You'll get used to it.
And, if you don't see the preceding options making any noticeable changes in your lifestyle and economics learn about your company's telecommuting opportunities, or consider a second job. Of course there are issues to bear in mind as to whether or not this is a practical choice. For example, you don't want a job that sinks you into a deeper gas deficit. Second jobs should be close to home, or if you can help it, at home. Many news stories have featured stay at home, round the clock hours, no stress jobs that can supplement one's income enough to maintain current levels of comfort or even offer a financial boost.
