Poetry: Alcoholism

by Debby Peebles

Created on: August 25, 2008

They have asked me to write,
to wax together some lyrics,
about alcoholism.
That cunning, deceptive and
destructive, dark ism.
That entices young people,
into watery prisons.

Open the door that says,
alcoholic fun.
Come into the cave.
Welcome everyone.
Lie on the floor and open your mouth,
Let the poison run in
till you are no longer your self.
You've given your self up,
to the God of the bottle.
Now go home and
hate yourself,
for you are lost in a mottle.

Run my fair child,
run from the grave.
Toss out the bottle,
don't be a slave.
To the Acohol Ism,
the Dark Lord of the Bottle.
Respect yourself, please
don't fall into the mottle.
