Reflections: The perfect first date

My perfect first date was with the first real cowboy I ever met. It leads to a 10-year relationship.

He was tall, dark and handsome, and swept me off my feet the first day I met him. I came to Mississippi for a family reunion, May of 1992. Everyone was sitting around the picnic area and under the carport of the home house; it was our re-acquaintance day. That year we signed in over five hundred family members, so yes we had a full yard.

A pick up truck pulled up in the yard and four men stepped out of it. There was one, the driver, which got every woman there attention, yeah even the married women. I had never seen so many women change clothes that fast. One of my aunts, a cousin and I sat there just watching. My other cousins and family members were going out of their way to get a date with this man. It was really somewhat funny to see them carry on the way they were.

While, after the day went on, and night start to fall all these city women, wanted a tour of the small town nightlife. So, many of the men agreed to go get their cars and trucks, so that there would be enough room for everyone. There was one catch in order for the "looker" to go; he would go if I would go. I was planning to be part of the babysitting crew, myself! After plenty of pleading, I decided to go.

Since there were so many of us, we had to drive around to find a place big enough to hold all of us (about 15 cars and trucks). He drove my cousin sat in the middle and I sat on the passenger side. My cousin talked and asked question during the entire ride. We finally found a place in Vaiden, Mississippi, and unknowing to all of us, even him, some of his family were there also (he had a big family, too). We found a table and partied most of the night.

Every woman in the place pulled him on the dance floor at one time or other. He would ask me to dance and I would decline and continue to talk, I even told him one time that I do not dance. Then it happens! He went to the DJ booth and requested a song. Before the song could start, he came back to the table, gently grabbing my hands. He asks me to dance without saying a word. He had requested, Gerald Levert's, "Baby Hold On To Me". I had never slow dance with a man that held me like that. I knew that a man could feel like that just by dancing.

Well, on the way back to the farm, he drove, I sat in the middle and my cousin sat on the passenger side. We got to the house, my cousin got out of the truck, and we sat there and talked. He then asked me if I could go somewhere with him, and I agreed. He took me to an old abandon road, which lead to a hilltop. We talked some more and before I knew it I was sleep. I was awakening to a warm blanket spreaded across me, a gentle kiss on my lips and the sunrise. It was beautiful!

Even through we are no longer together he can still make me blush and I him.
