Sure Fire Ways To Get Rid of Indigestion

Most of us, at one time or another, have experienced the systems of indigestion. You may feel like you have a lump in your throat, your esophagus burns (this will be felt behind your rib cage), your stomach burns, you are bloated and just plain miserable. It is difficult to find a comfortable position when sitting or lying down. Your stomach may rumbling, making sounds as if it is a volcano ready to erupt (I know that is an extreme example).

First of all, if you are prone to getting indigestion, avoid hot, spicy foods. Also avoid foods that have a high fat content. The stomach has to work overtime to digest fat, and this causes indigestion.

Also avoid fried foods. Because fried foods are cooked in some type of oil, the fat in the oil will cause your esophagus and stomach to burn.

There are many over the counter remedies available. If you decide to go this route, plan on spending quite a bit of money before you find the antacid that works for you.

There are many sure fire ways to get rid of indigestion without spending a lot of money.

Use garlic oil (2 or 3 drops) and massage your stomach.

Drinking ginger tea after a meal promotes digestion of the food we have just eaten.

Eat a banana. Bananas have a natural antacid effect.

Put 2 teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink before eating a meal.

Many people have indigestion because they eat too fast. We need to eat slowly. Chew your food completely, slowly before swallowing. When you eat slow the enzymes in your mouth begin the digestive process. Digestion starts in the mouth. When eating slowly the amount of undigested food that goes to your stomach is greatly reduced.

Don't lie down when you have indigestion.

Drink a cup of Chamomile tea before going to bed.

Do not eat food before going to bed. Food needs several hours to digest.

If you like to chew gum, then this remedy is for you. When we chew gum, it stimulates the prodution of saliva in the mouth. Again, the production of saliva neutralizes the acid in the digestive system and helps push the digestive juices back in the stomach.

If you still have the symptoms when it is time to go to bed, raise the head of your bead. This keeps the acid in the stomach from backing up into the esophagus and causing great discomfort.

Many people have also found that laying in a recliner chair instead of trying to sleep in bed helps aid in the relief of heartburn.
