Video game reviews: Carnival Games (Nintendo Wii)

I love funfair games and had been looking at this game for a long time before my partner decided to buy it for my birthday.

On the back of my case it says "Experience all the fun and excitement of the funfair with carnival funfair games" You can create your player from a very limited choice but you can buy more things once you have won some tickets.

This is a single or multi player game, with prize mode for single and head to head or competition for multi player. I played the single player game first where you play to win tickets and virtual prizes, the tickets you use in penny pushers or grabbing machines there are a few others too which I won't spoil for you because I found these the best part of the game. As you play the game and win prizes you turn them into bigger prizes this moves you closer to unlocking the extra games. This took no time at all. I then had a go on multi player and unless you have more than one remote it gets a bit annoying swapping and strapping up all the time. I found this a bit more fun than single player.

This game has over 25 mini games including, dunk tank, and test your strength, hole in one, ring toss, clown splash, balloon darts, and day at the races, shooting gallery and many more.

When I first put the game on the first thing I noticed was the colours, very dull and the sound was terrible, sort of muffled, the music and graphics were not that great at all.

To play the games you use the remote in a number of ways I shall explain.

__Wii remote motions__
__Over hand throw/swing__
Hold the wii remote slightly raised as if throwing an over hand pitch, swing the remote down towards the floor.

__Underhand toss__
Hold the remote down at your side and swing it up towards your head.
__Power up__
This motion is used to power up in games like test your strength, hold the remote in front of you and shake vigorously up and down or move quickly in a circular motion.

__Shooting__
Just point at the screen and shoot with the B button.
__Arcade joystick__
Hold the remote upright and use just like an arcade style joystick.

__Flying disk throw__
Hold the remote like a Frisbee and throw the same way you would a Frisbee, (remember not to let go)
__Steering wheel__
I have the steering wheel that your remote fits in and this does help me but if you don't have it you hold the remote horizontally in front of you, bottom in the left hand and top in the right, rotate left and right as you were driving a car.

__Dart style__
Hold the remote just like a dart and jab it forwards quickly to throw your dart.
__golf swing__
Point the remote down and hold it just like a golf club and swing the same way too.

__My opinion__
I was disappointed with this one. The game has no excitement and I found it quite slow and boring it's not really a game of skill more pot luck, there are a few exceptions. I liked it more for multiplayer there is a bit more competition involved but no scores are recorded so you have nothing to beat except each other, your turn is over so quickly it takes a few goes to understand what you're doing and get it right. If the colours where brighter and the music was more exciting it probably could have made a better game, I would not recommend it if your looking for a single player game, the only time we seem to get it out and play it is when we have some friends round and even they don't seem to get excited about it. I did go through the whole lot and unlock it in a night and to me that's game over then, nothing more to achieve on single player. I don't think its worth the money brand new but a second hand copy is reasonable.
