to fresh water, as well as to every patch of land that could be used to grow healthy produce? Who will pay for the workers to do all the work that this would require? Nobody, because there would be no profit in it, and if there is no profit, then what is the sense in doing it, right? Yet they can justify Trillion dollar military budgets?
No, technology is not the key to alleviating world poverty. It could be one of the tools used to alleviate world hunger, but not world poverty. It was technology that made it possible for all of those empty warehouses and factories to line the world's landscapes. For all of those companies that jumped on the technology bandwagon and made the corporate structure more wealth than they could ever spend in one lifetime (try as they might), there are hundreds of thousands of people that would be working in that technology's place.
Technology is the biggest reason that so few people control so very much of the world's wealth. Why pay people to work when you can buy a machine for a few billion dollars that will do what a few thousand people could do, and do it faster? Why not? Because people need to work to make a living, and if technology keeps taking jobs from people, there will be more and more people lining up for government hand-outs, and living in large shanty towns with no hope and no chance for a future. Kind of sounds like poverty, doesn't it?
