Is technology the key to alleviating world poverty?

Title endorsed in part by:

There will always be the have's, the have not's, and the Warren Buffets in this world as long as we rely on a monetary system. As long as people need money in order to receive goods, then there will always be poverty and children dying of easily cured diseases and sicknesses. It is not technology that will be relied upon to alleviate world poverty, it was technology that caused world poverty. The main problem is that there are probably at least 5 to 10 (or more) people on the planet for every job. I can remember when the Atari Vision Quest (ping pong type play) computer game came out, and my father said it was the beginning of the end of civilization. I didn't know then what he had meant, but now it is all too obvious.

For every factory that has robotic equipment taking the jobs of 10 or more people per small machine, and thousands of small machines per factory, the need for greed will win out every time over the need for feed. With the automotive industry alone using technology to run the assembly and production lines, hundreds of thousands of well paying jobs flew the cuckoo's nest. Combine that with all other industries that use technology over human power, and the amount of jobs taken from people by technology is stupendously astounding.

Unfortunately, with a North American minimum wage of under $15 per hour, poverty will never be alleviated here, let alone in third world countries. As long as we have people needing to work two or even three jobs just to barely house, feed and clothe their children, while their bosses live in sprawling mansions with chalets in the Bahamas, poverty will always exist. So, is technology the key to alleviating world poverty? Or is it the answer to alleviating world hunger?

Technology can be used to help irrigate lands that are barren, and then that land could be used to grow healthy produce. Instead of standing barren and unused, other than to house millions of people in shanty shacks and tents (if they are lucky enough to have that much), any land with a soil, as opposed to a rock base should be able to be upgraded to farmland. Technology can clear the land and cleanse the water, deliver it to where it needs to be, and distribute it as needed, not just to the rich and the powerful, but to the people willing to farm these lands.

The problem, of course, is financial. Who would pay for all of that technology; the pumps, water filtration and storage facilities, water pipes leading to every town and village that does not have access
