Yes! Yes! Yes! apparently yes! when I see the mistakes new mothers make, starting even as the baby's birth, their rushing to it's side at the least crying, when in the old days it was said that this was good for the infant, to devellop it's lungs! But now it seems instructions should be given on how to be parent! Indeed they should! For when I see a young mother in a store, or anywhere else, being berated by their 4-5 yrs old! I am embarrassed for them. I feel like going up to them, shaking them saying: " Dear, YOU are the mother He/or She is the child!"

But times have changed since I raised my six children, I had no mentor then, being newly arrived in America..so I "played it by ears" as they say...and I must have done something right, for today I have to say, I am very proud of not only my own kids, but theirs and even my great grandchildren. For even though they live in different parts of the U.S. whenever we get together, I am amazed at their children matching calm and polite and affectionate behaviors, due probably to the fact that they were raised in homes with much love and discipline! Just as I done earlier with my six children.

Now I see the lack of discipline from the youngest to the oldest in so many families; I even saw someone on TV advertising, to help parents with their kids bad behaviors! Holly Molly... now you have to pay someone to teach you how to be a parent! what's next?..Whatever happened to common sense, whatever happened to doing it the way your parents did it? Sure you want to be different then they were, but why? look around you, the schools now have to have guards with guns? teachers are afraid of some of their students! kids go on rampages killing other kids! This is better you think? No it's not, and my friends I hate to break it to you, but it is not the Schools job to discipline your children- it is yours from the day they are born till they leave your house! That's how they'll learn..

In fact I have a fun story that happened to my sister many years ago in Algiers No Africa where I hail from; my sister Germaine had come to have her laundry done free by my mothers' washer woman,(that was long before washing machines came to France) but somehow in response to something mother said, Germaine answered her rudely..at which point my old lady smacked her as hard as she could. Now indignant Germaine said "But... maman I am married now! -and have three children of my own!" to which mother replied:

" As long as you are in my house you will talk to me with respect!"

I daresay my sister never forgat that lesson! Which reminds me..The Chinese have a saying "As goes the family so goes the nation." Makes one think doesn't it?
