Famous people from Indiana

Many celebrities, musicians and polyticians hail from middle America, and this case Indianna. The following celebrities make frequent reference to their upbringing in the midlands state.

1. LARRY BIRD. Lawrence Joseph Bird was Born December 7, 1956 in West Baden Springs, Indiana. Larry Bird was a small forward and power forward in the NBA from 1979 to 1992 and is widely considered one of the best players of all time.

Some of the highlights of his career include 3 NBA championships (1981, 1984, 1986,) and 3 NBA MVP awards (1984-1986).

2. MICHAEL JACKSON. Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana August 29, 1958. Michael is an American entertainer and musician.. Five of his albums have been some of the world's best selling: Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, and History. He started his musical career at age 11 as a member of "the Jackson 5", since then his career took of and he has been referred to as the "King of Pop".

3. DAVID MICHAEL LETTERMAN. David Michael Letterman was born on April 12, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana. David is an American Emmy Award winning comedian and television host. His first success on a T.V show called Late Night with David Letterman. Then, he moved to his current success; CBS's Late Show. Some of his achievements include 7 Emmys and many comedy awards.

4. JOHNATHAN JENNINGS. Jonathan Jennings was not born in Indiana but he was the first Governor in Indiana. He was born 1784, July 26th and was in office December 12, 1816-December 1, 1822. This Presbyterian leader played an important role in Indiana's history as he overturned the pro-slavery laws in that area.

5. JAMES DAVIS. James Robert Davis was born July 28, and is an American cartoonist that made the well known comic strip Garfield. Some others that he worked on include tumbleweeds, Gnorm Gnat, U.S. Acres, and one about Mr. Potato head. He also worked on some television specials including "Garfield & Friends" and "Garfield Gets Real". Some of his career achievements include: 4 Emmys and Reuben Award for Overall Excellence in Cartooning.

6. ANNE BAXTER. Anne Baxter was born in Michigan City, Indiana on May 7, 1923. She was a active actress from 1940 - 1983. At age ten she was in a Broadway play and her everyone was so impressed that they insisted that she peruse acting as a career. One of her career achievements was Best Supporting Actress in "The Razor's Edge"

7. SHARON WILCHMAN. Sharon Wilchman was born May 13, 1952. She was an American swimmer and Olympia champion. She competed at the 1968 Olimpic Games in Mexico city where she received a bronze in 100 meter breaststroke, and gold in 200 meter breast stroke.
