Well, mobile broadband is up and coming, that is for sure. As for the death of DSL, only time will tell. I worked for one of the first mobile broadband services almost ten years ago. It was based on military communications that the U.S. military used in the field of battle. There were definite problems with this system when it came over here to the States. My city where I live in Minnesota was one of the first in a test market for the new service. To make a boring story short it fell flat. It was to expensive and there were too many problems with the service dropping out. These short comings have been addressed and it is now pretty reliable. Just like cell phones are now, soon mobile broadband will be as well.
If you have a home based PC then I would say that I would go with DSL. It is more reliable and probably costs less at this moment in time. But if your on a laptop then I would say go with Mobile broadband because of course you can take it anywhere. Imagine this. Your out and about and some girl, or guy, catches your eye. What do you say? What do you talk about? Well if your on your mobile Broadband with your laptop then I bet the guys or girls approach you instead. Or maybe you could say, "hey check this out", and have something of interest on you screen like a funny video clip or whatever. Situations always present themselves and it is up to the intellect of the individual at the time of encounter.
However, you could still go with DSL even if you had a laptop. One thing that you could do is make sure you have wireless capabilities in your laptop. You can use free wireless Internet at a lot of businesses these days. You don't even need to have Internet service at all. You could just use that business service for free. Over here in the States we have free wireless Internet service all over the place. Most the time a person does not have this ability at home so unless you live in the vicinity of the signal so DSL would be needed.
After writing this I think I have convinced myself that DSL is not dead at all. It is cheaper, more reliable, and as long as you have a wireless Internet card in your laptop then who needs a Mobile Broadband Internet service. I'm sure that some people will and if you can afford it then I would get it but if its your budget that you are most concerned with then no I would not.
These decisions all depend on a persons needs. There are just as many pros and cons to both DSL and Mobil Broadband. DSL is cheaper but not mobile unless you are wireless and can use it in select locations. Mobile Broadband is more expensive but you can take it anywhere with no limitations.
So I wonder what you are thinking now. I hope that I gave you some different ideas so that you can make a better decision for yourself. If I did not then I am most certainly sorry for wasting your time. Just remember that no matter what you decide you are going to at least have Internet service and that is the most important aspect. One more thing to ponder is that Mobil is the future and the price will come down but DSL usually can be bundled through your existing phone bill for easy billing and sometimes discounts as well.
