Indigestion can be, at times, so discomforting, annoying, and embarrassing. What is indigestion? It is a nasty reaction causing gas, abdominal pain (sometimes severe), rumblings, bloating of the stomach, belching, nausea, vomiting, and acid bile. Learning what causes indigestion is the first step in learning how to prevent it from happening in the first place?

Learning how your body reacts to certain foods and drinks, is one sure fire way to know which ones not to take in. If you have food allergies that lead to indigestion, then logically, you wouldn't want to take into your body foods and drinks that are going to upset the stomach or intestines.

A person might not realize that taking sips of liquids while eating their meal, will essentially dilute necessary enzymes which break down food in the stomach. The digestive system can then become irritated causing indigestion to arise and the afore mentioned reactions occur. Here are some tips you can try to stave off indigestion or fix it.

First and foremost, avoid foods that your stomach can't tolerate. Things that are spicy or greasy can churn the stomach and cause bile, this results in a case of nasty indigestion. Some refined foods seem to cause this type of irritation too.

Alcohol, caffeine, or high acid content drinks, such as lemonade, orange juice, tomato juice or things with vinegar can cause indigestion. Try drinking water instead of drinks that affect your body in a bad way. Water is better for you and easier on the stomach.

If you experience a lot of stress, anxiety, or you worry to much, if you get disappointed easily, you need to find a way to let it go. When you experience these negative things in your life you upset your nervous system, which can cause indigestion. Finding ways to ease those situations will help in reducing the risks of developing indigestion. Try taking walks, do deep breathing, try yoga. Count to ten, or change what it is you are doing. Perhaps a relaxing bath with your favorite music to listen to will soothe your weary body and soul.

Don't wrinkle your nose at trying Aloe Vera juice. It's a wonderful alternative and more beneficial than taking prescription medications. It's a lot cheaper than doctor visits. About 1/4 cup on an empty stomach can help. Certain Aloe Vera juices taste just like spring water. George's Aloe Vera juice is the best. You can find this brand at most health food stores, or whole food places.
