Stressed out? Here's how to survive

Don't you hate it when people tell you to "relax, just relax"?!
As if feeling the rage or anxiety that accompany stress can be turned off by choice. That would be pretty nice.

But alas, reality sets in. We can't always control the emotions that overflow within us as a result of some event that causes great upheaval. Our response is our response. What we can control is our behavior.

Crying. I know, it sounds wimpy to most men. As a woman, I recommend a good cry from time to time. Let out all those pent up disappointments and fears.

Activity helps to divert the mind from the subject of the stress when appropriate. Chances are it will need to be dealt with; but a brief respite from ANY stressful situation is defiantly helpful.

For me, writing for Helium is a great stress reliever; followed by reading and gardening. Taking care of my animals gives me something else to focus on when I am feeling stressed. Cleaning the house...cranking some tunes...all these things are helpful to me in times of stress.

Talking to someone is also very helpful. Someone you can trust to be honest with you and objective. Remember you are not alone. just about everyone feels overwhelmed from time to time!
