Rules of Writing
There are correct rules in writing as there are rules in everything we do. This bites. Writing is what we think, we imagine, our innermost passions in life, all the secrets we hide, we write. To do this and accomplish a part of ourselves on paper, for the world to see, to communicate in the most positive manner, is a difficult matter at times. It is not an easy task. It can be frustrating, t say in the least.
There are the standard MLA and APA manuals we should all know and yet, love. Those rules change every year also. Therefore, keeping up with the rules becomes harder all the time. However, there is the thing inside of us, making the writer anxious, anticipating the story to tell, the adventure in their mind, or the strong opinion, which will not wait to be put on paper. It takes much work, to give up a part of you, for others to read.
Then, there is always the matter of 'tools'. A check for spelling and grammar should follow. For this, the "Ignore button" is a favorite of mine. It makes my life so less stressful. After the piece is written, still the proof reading is done. Other suggestions have been recommended. Then, above all, never forget the "save" button, this is a key factor in all writing, whether it is good or bad.
When the next stage is finally caught up to, you want to be certain of all the article is clearly pasted on the small space, someone has usually offered you. Then you must check for paragraphs, to make certain all is not lost and the words are in the correct spots. And the periods, commas, question marks and all points are therefore covered.
Now, you have written, checked for grammar and spelling, saved (just in case,) and pasted your most important piece of you to the white space. And it looks good. Next, is an easy step.
It is the "send" button. You gladly tap the 'send' ever so gently and your article disappears into cyber space. Any good or mistakes made are there forever into empty space, for others to determine the quality of your thoughts.
You are proud. You are happy. This has taken the sweat from your brow to do this. However, what is this? You do not have enough words. Or worse yet, the editor marks it up on the new program they have in pretty red type and 'ta-dah', you have work to re-do again. You may take a deep breath but you know you will do this. You know inside you have to complete it, even if the rules are your dominator, so you do. You want the piece to be completed and to be 'you'. It is your child, your heart, and no one will ever understand this but yourself. One more try at it ...Again.
There are too many rules in writing. It should be more fun. I remember when writing was much easier and less demanding. I miss the days of paper and pencils.
