Though Bing Crosby often sung about the magic of a white Christmas, there's nothing like trading scarves and mittens for a magical holiday season in sunny Orlando, Florida.
The average high temperature during Orlando's winter months is an inviting 72.9 degrees (Fahrenheit) with an average low of 51.3 degrees. However, if a cold front happens to swing through, you may see one or two days of upper 50s to mid-60s; so be sure to pack a sweater or light jacket.
Holiday festivities in Orlando are filled with merriment and fun. Here is a brief rundown of just a few of the exciting things the city has to offer holiday vacationers:
Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom
During the evening hours, park goers are treated to a variety of holiday shows, fireworks and seasonal merriment. The entire park is decorated with a holiday theme, and amazing light shows dazzle the eye and touch the heart. Be sure to catch Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party where you'll hear holiday storytelling, live music, live appearances by Santa Goofy, and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade.
Disney's Epcot
Epcot's global theme is brought out with such holiday events as the world/candlelight processional. Hear a choir and orchestra with narrators telling the Christmas story. And of course, lights and Christmas trees abound.
Disney's Animal Kingdom
Don't miss Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade which combines the spirit of the holiday season with the deep jungle themes of Animal Kingdom.
Universal Studios Orlando
While Universal Studios is independent of the Disney theme parks, the festivities are no less vibrant. During the month of December, the Macy's Parade comes to Universal Studios replete with Thanksgiving Day balloons, floats, and a tree lighting ceremony emceed by the man of the hour: Santa Claus. Also at Universal Studios, celebrate the holidays bah-humbug style at Grinchmas, located in the Islands of Adventure theme park. The colorfully decorated Seuss Landing reflects the Grinch's distaste for the holiday season; and guests are invited to meet the ever-cranky creature himself in his bah-humbug abode. If you're looking for some adult action, be sure to stroll the boulevard at CityWalk where you can dine, shop, and listen to live performances.
SeaWorld Orlando
Seaworld Orlando's Christmas at Seaworld sports colorful decorations, carolers, and special presentations of SeaWorld holiday shows. See the Christmas-themed Makahiki Luau and watch fireworks on New Year's Eve at The Waterfront where you can also shop and dine.
From someone who honeymooned in Orlando during the holiday season, I would return every year if it were possible. The warm weather, friendly crowds, and around-the-clock fun atmosphere of Orlando's theme parks during the holidays is truly magical.
