Poetry: Death of a loved one

by Michelle Dunbar

Created on: August 22, 2008

Dear sweet darling daughter
My Baby Angela
Although I feel you near me
Truth is you are so far
Away up with the angels
High in the clouds above
Always looking down on me
And filling me with love

I often think how life would be
If you'd stayed by my side
My first and only daughter
My treasure and my pride
Fate had not been on our side
And so we had to part
Yet still I think of you each day
You're always in my heart

We went on to give you brothers
Of whom you would be proud
Two boys full of mischief
And I'm sure that from your cloud
You can hear their constant laughter
Their joy and see their play
And if they ever weep I know
You'll help them through the day

Now they're old enough to understand
We told them of your life
How short it was, how precious,
How your loss cuts like a knife
I often think how life would be
If you'd stayed by my side
My first and only daughter
My treasure and my pride
