Landscaping with flowering plants

Created on: August 22, 2008

Landscaping can be for some a most enjoyable time. It can bring some delightful smells, and colorful sights to our properties or a property we were ask to design. For me it's a type of therpy for whatever is bothering me. There in my front, side or backyard I can change something that:"Empowers Me". Certainly there remains alot of things we can't change, but in our gardens we can. When the weather isn't suited for me to go out, I take the time to plan for it.

Flowering gardens must be planned, and planned well in order to ensure a constant stream of colors throughout the growing season. Then we must prepare our spaces well to create the best possible opportunities for them to come up. We plant when it's the best time for the varieties we have selected, and finally we prune, or cut back to guarantee the success of each in the areas of planting. I call this my 4(four) rules for my: "Landscaping Projects". You may have other names or ideas on how to go about landscaping with flowering plants, and if that works then it's a "good thing".

I say that we must develop a system for our spaces that is most advantageous for them to flower. Going back to my first idea of planning, I like to say that we sometimes wait until we're at Home Depot, or some nursery to decide on a particular plant or seed, but we should write down first what we like to plant and do our homework to see if this plant is a good choice for our garden, and the space that it will require to do well, and how many must we plant? I found that if you stagger the plants by planting some one week and the same variety the following week you have a longer time to view this plant.

When planting every thing the same time they all seem to come to fruition, and then what? We have created a blank space in our flowering areas, and it sticks out like a sore thumb, instead of our green thumbs(smile). So planning must be foremost in our minds in our quiet months. Graphs are a wonderful idea to visually show us how every flower is arranged to show different colors, or to show a mass display of a certain color theme. Planning affords us this great opportunity. We're the true masters of our spaces, and place and the thrill of seeing it on paper will bring an excitement to the project.

Plan your project around flowering plants that are hardy, (that is to say they require very little care), ask nurseries and garden centers personnel about these flowering plants, especially if you don't have a lot time to devote to your garden
