Poetry: Facing life

This was the day

Woke up this morning
alarm set at 5
I don't want him to go yet
and need to know when he arrives.

Walked quickly to the kitchen
to make breakfast for him
knowing it will be awhile til
I will be given the chance again.

He walked out the door
looking handsome as could be
and I got lost in the moment
of as every emotion swept over me.

Tears filled my eyes as I watched
him drive away.
It seemed so hard to turn around
but knowing this was the day

I found my way back to bed
but just laying there thinking
I must have drifted off
because at 7:12 the phone was ringing.

Lost in Detroit - 75 is closed
and detours to get back on coarse
don't seem to be easy
but after 20 minutes he was back on route.

As of 11:10 he was in Strasburg
filling up and stretching out
I couldn't wait to hear from him
he is what my life's about.

Waiting and thinking about
where he's at right now
always wishing the best for him
I could never be more proud.
