When it comes to creating a promotional package there are a couple of things that are absolutely essential to be included here. In your preperation you need to make ready the following: a brief band/artist biography, history of artist achievements, and also a tracklist for the CD that is to be enclosed with the promotional package. You might also wish to consider finding the best quotes for things that others have said about the music. Provide sources for the writers work; if it's a website then make sure you put down the web address, and similarly if it's for printed press then provide the name of the publication. These are the basics to be considered when preparing a promotional package for music and this is a great starting point; once all these points have been considered and prepared then you're well on your way to promotional package completion.
Once you've decided upon the basics then you can start considering aesthetics; what's your promotional package to look like and how is it to be laid out? You need to think long and hard about this; do you want it to be printed upon a single page of A4, or would you rather have multiple pages for instance. You need to consider design and ease of extracting information from the package. You don't want it to be overly complicated and need to ensure that it's user-friendly.
A fantastic way of finding out whether it is user-friendly or not is to show it to others before you start sending the promotional package off to official sources. Show the package to friends/family etc. and begin to gage public opinion. Use a small sample group of people and ask them to tell you what they like about the package and also what they'd change were it their own project; if several people think that you should change the same aspect of the promotional package then you know that it's a problem area.
Look at examples of others promotional packages and decide what you like/dislike about them. Sometimes when it comes to promotional packages then less is more and the simpler and more basic the package is set out; the better. You need to decide what will work best for you and what sort of layout you will feel most comfortable with and will achieve the greatest effect in providing promotion. You want people to read every word of what it is that you have to say and also you want to sound interesting. Why say something with a whole paragraph for instance if you can achieve the same effectt with a single line? It's best to be snappy and to the point in order to keep the reader interested and make sure that their mind does not wander.
Preparing a promotional package is not as simple a task as it may at first seem; there's a lot of thought that needs to go into the building of the package and it's important that time is taken over the preparation. There's much to be considered such as the look, the layout, and also the user-friendliness of the promotional package and all of this needs to be carefully considered. You need to be thinking things through at all times and if you do this then the preparation will be made a lot easier and you'll ultimately be a lot more happy with the end result that you achieve.
