Finding your purpose in life

Life is filled with disappointments, but there is nothing that supports you must accept them as your destiny. There are no situations so hopeless they cannot be rectified or lives so wretched they can not be made whole again.

You may see folks who navigate their way through life as though they knew their destiny from the moment of conception, that is not true. Everyone, at some point, finds their destiny or their purpose in life through a series of hits and misses.

Everyone has a special talent, but sometimes finding it is like peeling back layers on an onion. After a number of failures, temptation might dictate throwing away the onion and to simply exist, but I ask that you do not heed that voice.. Often it is during times of utter frustration that you will make your breakthrough. Resolve to take time to determine your purpose in life and to live a purposeful life despite what is going on with you or around you.

How does one find his or her purpose? The first step is to stop where you are and ponder the following questions: 1. How did you get to where you are? 2. Did you have a plan? If yes, what steps did you miss? 3. Is this where you want to be? If no, where do you want to be? 4. How do you get from where you are to where you want to be?

Visualize the place you want to be; see it and experience it with all your senses. Do not leave out any detail or description. For purpose of this exercise, pretend you are a carpenter and you are building a house. First you need the specifications. With your vision, you put all the drawings of your future house on a piece of paper.

Next, establish the foundation and erect the frame. This is basic and from that point on, it's a matter of details: what type of siding do you want, what type of windows, what type of roof, etc.?

Leet's get back to your future. The next step in your exercise is to visualize your specifications, what do you need to do to get to your life's goals? What foundation and frame do you see to complete your goal? Do this exercise daily until you are satisfied you are ready to proceed to the next stage.

Imagination is the most important component of this exercise, because it takes you from mentally seeing to mentally doing to physically possessing. Write down all the things you want for your life, describe everything as though you are writing a book. (Do this daily for not less than one-half hour.) Add all the details it takes to manifest your goals, see the colors bursting forth. Hear the sounds as laughter replaces despair. Most of all see yourself as the happy, confident, and contented person you have become.

This will be your new life, if you do the exercises and stay in the moment. Forget the past, see yourself as the winner you are. Once you reach your goal, evaluate where you are at least once or twice annually so that you may make remedial changes if needed.

Life is fluid; do not expect to reach a point of permanence, it will only frustrate you. Each new day is a new beginning and will be rewarding only if you are prepared to embrace it. Celebrate all your achievements as they happen, you earned them.

Remember change, and even adversity, is inevitable, but the impact can be maximized or minimized through your ability to use visualization and imagination to successfully create or recreate the world you desire. Stay in the moment and you will stay happy.
