With such websites like Myspace, and others it's no wonder why parents are banning their kids from using the computer all together. Parent's are unsure of allowing their kids to use the internet, because of all the online predators that stalk the internet. There's also the harm of unfiltered searches, that can allow your child to access web sites for a much more mature audience. However, there are some resources that will allow your kids to play on the internet, and learn at the same time.
As you may already know the public library has many resources for children, and adults alike. Many public libraries have computer equipment that has featured games, and specific web sites geared for young children. Many libraries have also created web sites that will allow the kids to learn about a certain subject, but at the same time have a little fun playing these learning games. Most of these programs do not contain any violence or unethical themes, and best of all it's all free.
They also have some computers that are filtered, so that children are not allowed to access web sites that are not suitable for them to see. Most libraries also have timers on their computers, and this prevents each child from staying on the computer all day. It's a great idea because once their time on the computer is over, the child will more likely be compelled to check out a library book afterwards. Many libraries have the filtered computers, but it's a great idea to check out your local library for a list of rules and regulations regarding children using the computers.
