I have always loved a good scary story. Most people begin to look for scary places to visit around Halloween. I look all year round, because there is nothing like a good scare. Many of us wonder about the strange occurrences people talk about. I want to know if they are telling the truth about being haunted or not. I spend a few hours of the day looking for places to check out. I think my next stop will be San Diego, CA. I have put together some of the reasons why to visit San Diego.
The Whaley House - 2476 San Diego Ave (619)297-4511 This house was built on the gallows, where many lost their lives. This is also where Yankee Joe Robinson was hung.
La Casa De Estudillo - 4002 Wallace St (619)220-5422 Helen Hunt Jackson wrote her novel, Romona, based on this place. Father Antonio Ubach is a based on a person that is believed to live here. The Star of India - 1492 N. Harbor Dr The Star of India is the oldest active iron-hull sailing ship.
El Campo Santo Cemetery - 2400 Block of San Diego Ave Located two blocks from the Whaley house, part of San Diego Ave was built on as many as 18 graves.
Robinson-Rose House - 4002 Wallace St (619)220-5422 Employees here have experienced many unexplained things.
El Fandango Restaurant - 2734 Calhoun St (619)289-2860 El Fandango was built where the Machado House burned down in 1858.
MACS Miramar - Miramar Road, San Diego, CA F-8 Crusader crashed into the hanger killing 14 people.
William Heath Davis House - 410 Island Ave I have never much wanted to sleep in a place that was haunted. Something about waking up and wondering if my dream really was just a dream, scares me. I do realize there are some that like that kind of thing. Here is to you. I hope one of these hotels keeps you up all night long.
Hotel Del Colorado - Two pregnant women reportedly took their own lives here.
Horton Grand Hotel - The second grand staircase is said to be a gateway to supernatural occurrences. One thing that you have to do when visiting places like these is take a tour. You have to hear the stories from the natives themselves. They have a way of making everything sound so much better. Plus, they can give you advice and answer most of your questions. I wanted to point out some of the tours I found that sound promising.
San Diego Haunted Ghost Tours and Haunted Old Town Walking Tour - 4041 Harney St For under $50, you to see the Grand Hotel, William Davis House, Villa Montezuma, El Campo Santo Cemetery, and the Whaley House.
Haunted Old Town Walking Tour - For around $25, you can see the Gasalamp Quarter Hotel, Oddest and oldest home, mysterious mansion, oldest and creepiest cemetery, and the most haunted house.
Ghostly Limo Tours - 2541 San Diego Ave (877)220-4844 Why not take a five or six hour tour to five or six haunted locations for around $50.
Sance - For $25, a group of 12 people can have a truly unique experience.
Old Town Trolley Tour - 4010 Twiggs St This is a two-hour tour taking you through old town for under $50.
I know that there are some of you that do not believe in this sort of stuff, but know someone that does. Why not give them an opportunity to show you why they do? In the end, if you still do not believe, just think of it as a history lesson. That is basically what you are doing anyways.
I hope this guide helps you with the planning of your trip to San Diego. I know it will for me. I will just jot down all these numbers and keep them close. Who knows, maybe I will run into you. I hope you have a truly frightening vacation.
