Reflections: The perfect first date

After long sleepless nights from studying for the finals it was finally over. There goes that day, it was four days before Christmas last year when me and my now boyfriend had our first date. I wanted it to be perfect since it was the first time I am going out again with a guy for a real date after three years of a long distance relationship that failed. Another added pressure for our first date is that we belong to the same class which means if we screw the date up there might be complete awkwardness between us for the rest of our years in school. How we achieved our successful perfect first date? Well simple, we stick to the classics.

First we went strolling in downtown Toronto for some last minute Christmas shopping. I was trying on some clothes and I wanted to know his opinions about me dressing up. Clever huh? After shopping, I suggested we walk a few subway stops so we would appreciate the lights of downtown and we can have more chances to talk. We held hands while walking. The chilly weather helped in making the night more romantic as we can warm ourselves up by staying close to each other and holding hand even without gloves.

We then headed uptown for a movie night. What better excuse can there be to cuddle up on a date than watching a romantic flick. Luckily there was a romantic flick playing on that day. We watched P.S I Love You. It was an awesome romantic movie by the way. It made me cry a little bit but it was a perfect excuse to put my head on his shoulder. Plus, it's very hard to get guys to watch a chick flick on a day other than your first date so might as well take these chance girls. Other movie options for a first date are of course horror movies. Horror movies gives girls the excuse to shriek and curl up on the guys sleeves which I bet guys love.

Another classic for a first date is a dinner date. It does not have to be fancy if you cannot afford it. I would advice some research prior to deciding where to eat. It would be great if you know what your date likes to eat. I guarantee that there are many choices of places to eat that suits your taste and budget. Since it is a first date I suggest that the guy should offer to pay since it is a very gentlemanly thing to do. As for my first date with my boyfriend we ate at an Asian restaurant and sipped some bubble tea close to my place. He then offered to walk me home and since I was leaving the next day for Christmas vacation back home, we sealed our date with our first kiss too.

I guess it was a perfect first date for us because we both tried to be real to each other. We did not pretend to be someone else and we tried to know what each other likes so that not one of us would have to feel bad doing something we don't want. A perfect date isn't judge by how much you spent but by the quality time you spent together. The perfect date is judged when there is a higher chance that there will be a second, third, fourth and a lot more dates to come for you and that person. The best thing to do is to keep it real.
